Cats hate mess, including their own! They want dry, stable ground that feels good under paw, and stays clean. Rubber chippings and rubber bark are a tidy alternative to bark or gravel, providing outdoor cat spaces with a surface that retains its shape and stays fresh with minimal effort.

In catteries or garden cat runs, rubber bark helps keep things under control. It does not break down, attract fleas or go soggy in the rain. It drains quickly, brushes clean, and stays where it's meant to be.

Unlike gravel, rubber chippings don't end up everywhere. It doesn't cling to fur or trail back into the house. It just sits there, doing its job, while your cat goes about doing theirs, which is mostly lounging, patrolling and keeping an eye on the neighbours.

Available in Multiple Colours

  • Grey – A smart, modern finish that blends well with stone, gravel and paving.
  • Brown – A classic, earthy tone that looks like real bark but lasts much longer.
  • Red – Rich and warm in appearance, ideal for defining paths, zones or borders.
  • Blue – Crisp and calming, perfect for themed areas.
  • Green – Natural and soft, blends easily with lawns, hedges and planted areas.

How to Prepare your Cat Run

Laying rubber chippings or rubber bark is straightforward and doesn't need specialist tools. Follow our basic steps for a tidy, long-lasting finish:

1. Prepare the area
Clear away weeds, grass and any loose debris. If necessary, level the ground using a rake or spade to create a smooth, even surface.

2. Add a weed membrane
Lay down a good quality weed membrane across the area. This helps stop growth coming through and keeps the surface looking clean.

3. Pour and spread the rubber
Tip the rubber chippings or bark onto the surface and spread them out evenly with a rake. Aim for a depth of around 40 to 50 millimetres for best results.

4. Compact if needed
Light foot traffic or gentle pressure from a garden roller will help the pieces settle into place. Over time, the material will naturally bed in and create a smooth, stable layer.

Applications

Litter Training - If you're using outdoor litter trays, rubber bark is an excellent way to keep the area clean. Wash down as necessary.

Deter Cats from Pooping - Stop cats from using your flower beds and shrubs by encouraging them to use the litter area.

Doesn't Leave the Garden - Unlike gravel or bark it won't sticl to your cat's fur, so it won't end up in the house.
